Joanna and Zofia first met at the age of six, in the preparatory class of their music school in Gdansk, Poland. During 13 years of their intensive music education both friends got a reputation of top students and pianists but also shared love for an abstract form of humor and perception of reality which didn't particularly make
their teachers happy.. At one point their life paths have been separated: Zofia decided to follow her
classical piano studies in Belgium and further on in Italy, which would result in numerous recognitions and scholarships. Joanna however, continued pursuing her love for improvisation and jazz- an urge to create and break classical limits has been present since her childhood.
Nowadays, after a very busy decade of performing around Europe and creating several music events and festivals, Zofia works as the youngest member of the piano faculty at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. She pursuits her classical path, with a special place for the period instruments and romantic repertoire.
Meanwhile, Joanna expresses herself as a member of one of the most popular Polish jazz ensemble of the last years ( Wojciech Mazolewski Quintet ), as well as an author of a number of original projects oscillating between modern dance, video-art, performance, and installations . Her impressive discography proves how versatile an attitude of an individual towards the music can be.
The idea of performing together isn't new- this time, however, the public will have a rare occasion to meet two extremely different artists sharing the same repertoire and the same keyboard. In addition to their duo 4 hands repertoire ( including Schubert and Ravel ) we will be also able to focus on each artist separately during their solo performances representing classical and original jazz compositions.
