Subhankar Chatterjee was an ardent fan of music from childhood. Initially he started his training under Shri Komal Sadhu Khan, followed by Shri Alok Chatterjee.
He took training for applying ashtanga in Khayal under the renowned musicologist
Pt. Kumar Prasad Mukherjee.
From 1996 he started solo performances widely, getting huge appreciation and critical acclaims. He gave many international concerts, in England, Germany, The Netherlands, and Austria. He now visits Europe twice every year to perform on prestigious festivals, and he also gives lecture demonstrations in different University's.
With his charming voice and his characteristic presentation he has clearly established himself in the field of North Indian Classical vocal music.
Daniel Schell and Sandip Banerjee have recently released their new opus CD ´Green Birth´ .The compositions use of course many elements of classical Hindustani music, but they are also showing new ways in the dialog between the tiptar and the tabla. Daniel plays the tiptar, or tap-guitar, a new instrument with nice percussive characteristics, which go well along with Sandip´s instrument, the tabla.
Sandip’s book on learning Tabla titled ‘Le Tabla’ has been published from ID Music, France. This book is also available in English now.
A rare combination of talent, dedication and good sensibilities have brought Sandip to the top of his art. Lovers of Indian Classical music around the world will continue to be enthralled by this first class mature and powerful performing artist now and in the years to come.
