ZAHTAR- IMPROVISATIONS ON AEGEAN MELODIES

Description

Serdar Pazarcıoğlu – Violon, Ruben Tenenbaum - Violon
Christian Moser – Oud, Simon Leleux – Percussions

Serdar Pazarcıoğlu and Christian Moser play now for many years together in Zahtar Ensemble whose tours lead them all around Europe, Turkey, Azerbaïjan and Uzbekistan.
This project is based on a personnal and free interpretation of Aegean Music.
Together with the friendship, the two musicians develloped a common language that they decided to share with the audience.
One of the important forms in Turkish music is the modal improvisation called taksim generally played in introduction of a song or inside a song. But Zahtar uses here the melodies as an excuse to improvise and let them the space to include different elements that they developped in their playings such as Arabic or Indian flavors.
The repertoire is build of quite unknown pieces and makams on various rhythms.
Zahtar kept the habit to play with local musicians when they are touring. For this special occasion, two members of the Seyir trio will join them, Simon Leleux on percussions and Serdar Pazarcıoğlu's student Ruben Tenenbaum on violin.
