Event
DescriptionCreated in July 2016, O Clube do Choro de Bruxelas aims to share the Choro, Brazilian instrumental music. For this, Le Clube regularly organizes concerts, workshops, and rodas de Choro (“jam sessions”). The Clube invites international musicians playing this music, chorões, to play in Brussels and Belgium.
Today the two guests are Roee Ben Sira and Amoy Ribas. Roee Ben Sira is a jazz and classical pianist, he received his B.Mus. in Jazz Performance with Honors from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he won the “Best All-Around Keyboard Player” prize in 1997. He also has a particular emphasis on choro. Ben Sira has performed with renowned musical artists such as Yamandu Costa, Danilo Brito, Anat Cohen, Pedro Franco, Yoni Rechter, and Eli Degibri... He is currently completing his Ph.D. in ethnomusicology at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, writing his dissertation on choro music in Europe. Amoy Ribas was a professor at the main drum and percussion school in Rio de Janeiro, Maracatu Brasil, and at the Raphael Rabello Choro School in Brasilia, where he developed the study of Brazilian percussion by creating the percussion course. The mixture of different techniques and styles is a striking characteristic of the musician, who seeks to extract all the sound possibilities of the instruments. He already performed with such great names as Richard Galliano, Beth Carvalho, Mart'nalia, Leila Pinheiro, Joyce, Paulinho Moska, Gilson Peranzzetta, Hermeto Pascoal, Arismar do Espirito Santo, Proveta, Hamilton de Holanda...
