'Every year, at every corner of the U.S. , my fellow countrymen strive to get themselves to Las Vegas for their holidays.
During Obama’s period, under the pretext of visiting my old grandfather, whom I had only met once, I managed to get a travel permit to the U.S.
When I got to Vegas, I learned that if you take away the light and color from this city, nobody ever would want to waste their dollars there and happily get back to work the next day.
Tehran's atmosphere in my childhood resembled a Vegas without colors. However, aside from dollars, it was the lives of civilians which were also the chips on the table. In those days my tiny delicate ears were sensitive to sounds of missiles, sirens and bombs. Everyday a house was wiped off the map and the schools became less and less crowded, until they were completely closed.
And I was drawing.
Worse than today, the country was under the most severe international sanctions; and at the back of scrap papers I was keeping my “colors” alive.
The war came to an end, yet “colors” were still banned. Wearing a colorful t-shirt would easily have you end up in court and interrogation. The sanctions gradually eased and I could manage to draw on regular paper.
To this day I have never let “my colors” fade into that dismal, grey tunnel. Cause still, “Colors” can get you into trouble.
However, it's now a few years I’ve realized that there have been many like myself who have held on to their “Colors” since childhood.'

Currently Azarakhsh lives and works in Tehran. He will be present in the exhibition.
