MARQUITO VELEZ & TOM NELSON: FLAMENCO-JAZZ-WORLD VIRTUOSO GUITAR

Description

Born in 1966, Marquito Velez started to play flamenco guitar at an early age. At 15 he went to Spain to refine his playing under the expert guidance of Pedro Escalona. There he joined musical contests like the one of Jerez de la Frontera and La Union. In March 1988 he played the supporting act of Paco de Lucia in Brussels. Since then he has been performing regularly, both as a soloist and as an accompanist. He published the CD 'Flamenco Guitar'.

Tom Nelson is a young self-taught guitar player who was born in 1994. He began to play the guitar at the age of 14. First influenced by the blues, country and rock n'roll, he soon became interested in classical and flamenco music. His encounter with Marquito Velez enabled him to play his first concerts. Since then he has been playing regularly in various projects as a soloist and accompanist. As will become clear in this concert, Tom Nelson is very familiar with the traditional blues finger picking technique. As a young and ambitious musician he is always working to refine his playing.

An encounter of two virtuoso guitars, bringing a mix between jazz, flamenco, blues and world music!
