Anyone who says contemporary tango calls Astor Piazzolla almost in the same breath. And it often stops there, with the Argentine grandmaster, who once again had his last notes on paper a quarter of a century ago. But did the death of Piazzolla in 1992 also mean the last sigh of the bandoneon, the ultimate yearning of the tango nuevo? The Brussels trio URBANO emphatically denies. Piazzolla? It is not an end point but a benchmark: for contemporaries and for musicians and composers from a new millennium. Follow URBANO on an inspiring journey through pioneers and rising stars of that genre that is so much more than maestro Astor!
The musicians of URBANO are - you guessed it - addicted to tango. Bassist Ariël Eberstein, violinist Isabelle Decraene and pianist Ivo de Greef studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Their roads later crossed international tango stages, where the seeds laid of what in 2017 would result in trio URBANO.
Piano: Ivo de Greef Violin: Isabelle Decraene double bass: Ariel Eberstein
