DescriptionThe name Tarabella comes from the Arabic word “tarab”, which means deep emotion. It refers to the shared pleasure experienced by artists and their audience when poetry, music and emotional performance are combined. Sometimes with instrumental music, sometimes with songs or dance, the “tarab” style is understood and enjoyed as an invitation to explore all the moods of the human soul. As for Bella, it is a reference to Mediterranean culture.
Ensemble Tarabella was born out of the meeting of musicians from Belgium, the Maghreb and the Balkans. They have come together to share the rich and diverse musical traditions that have been cradling the shores of the Mediterranean and the Mashrek Region for centuries. Their repertoire reaches from Andalusia to the Balkans, up to the banks of the Bosphorus through the Maghreb, the Middle East and Turkey. It illustrates how Mediterranean and Arabic music have influenced and enriched each other to this very day. The diversity of this heritage will be at the heart of this performance, with instrumental music and songs by a guest artist. Together they will take the audience on a deep emotional journey that knows no borders.
