Description

Jacqueline Preys: violin, Pierre Sutra: cello, Nuno Cernadas: piano

The Faustus Piano Trio was founded in 2019 by three European classical musicians based in Brussels: the Bulgarian violinist Jacqueline Preys, the French cellist Pierre Sutra and the Portuguese pianist Nuno Cernadas. Together they decided to venture into the vast chamber music literature written for piano trio, with a special focus on the great Viennese tradition. The Faustus Piano Trio has received precious advices from Professor Johannes Meissl (Artis String Quartet) and cellist Vida Vujic at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna and has performed in different venues in Belgium and Austria.

Having played in several orchestras in Austria, Jacqueline Preys recently won the co-principal second violin position in the Belgian National Orchestra.
Jacqueline earned her Bachelor’s Degree at the New Bulgarian University in Sofia and a Degree of Master of Arts at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with renowned Professor Michael Frischenschlager. Throughout the years, Jacqueline worked with violinists such as Marianne Picketty (France), Gerard Poulet (France), Erich Grünberg (England) and Takashi Shimizu (Japan). In 2015, she was awarded 3rd Prize at the Stefanie Hohl Violin Competition in Vienna. In 2011 Jacqueline had the honor to play as a soloist with the Orchestre du CNR Paris in the Théâtre du Châtelet.
Jacqueline Preys performs in numerous festivals throughout the world such as Orford Summer Festival, Canada, Asahikawa Music Festival, Japan, and Salzburg Summer Academy, Austria.
Pierre Sutra grew up in France where he started to learn the cello in the music school of Rambouillet. Later on, he studied in Paris with Xavier Gagnepain, and from 2009 continued his studies in Belgium in the class of Jeroen Reuling (Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussels) and Justus Grimm (Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen). In 2014, he got accepted in the NSKA (Nederlandse Strijkkwartet Academie) in Amsterdam, where he received a high level training on chamber music playing from Marc Danel (Danel Quartet). Pierre Sutra also had the chance to work with great cello pedagogues such as Jerôme Pernoo (Paris), István Varga (Budapest) and Maria Kliegel (Cologne). He is performing regularly in Belgium in important orchestras such as La Monnaie-De Munt, Opera de Wallonie, Belgian National Orchestra, and gives regularly recitals as a chamber music player.
Born in Porto, Nuno Cernadas has studied in Portugal, Hungary and Germany, having earned his Master’s Degree and Soloist Diploma with distinction at the Music Universities of Freiburg and Karlsruhe, where he studied with Prof. Gilead Mishory and Prof. Michael Uhde.
Nuno Cernadas played as a soloist with the Harmos Festival Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Remix Ensemble Summer Academy, Orquestra do Norte and the Baden-Baden Philharmoniker under the baton of conductors Dirk Vermeulen, José Ferreira Lobo and Tobias Drewelius.
He is the 1st Prize winner of the Pro-Piano Competition in Bucharest (Romania) as well as several national competitions in Portugal.
Nuno Cernadas is currently pursuing a PhD at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel focusing on the piano sonatas of Alexander Scriabin. His supervisors are the eminent pianists Jan Michiels and Håkon Austbø. Since October 2018, he also serves as Assistant Piano Professor at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel and as a researcher at the Erasmushogeshool Brussel.
