Susanna Aleksandra is a jazz vocalist, lyricist, and composer. Passionate for languages, she effortlessly plays with words and melodies, navigating through traditional, modern, and Latin Jazz. A natural storyteller, the charismatic singer holds the listener spellbound, making jazz approachable not only for jazz lovers.
Susanna Aleksandra and Steinway artist, pianist Joonas Haavisto (FIN) started working together in 2018. They share a common vision in giving music multiple layers by uniting complex harmonies and forms with meaningful lyrics and strong melodies. The music is influenced by many styles including traditional and modern jazz, classical, popular and folk music. These influences are unified under the modern jazz umbrella, the stylistic choices of the musicians and the fantastic ensemble playing. Estonian bassist-composer Peedu Kass joins the duo for their European tour.
Susanna Aleksandra released her second album Souls of the Night in Japan in March 2020 (Blue Gleam). The international version of the album was released in January 2021 under the name “The Siren” (Eclipse Music, Finland). The album has received glowing reviews from jazz media from all around the world. One of the leading jazz magazines, Jazzwise, gave the album 4 stars and named it among the best albums of the month. The oldest jazz magazine in Japan, Jazz Critique, listed the album under the best albums of 2020.
Susanna Aleksandra is a rising star in the world of jazz. She has toured extensively around Europe as a band leader and guest singer for small bands and big bands. She did her Bachelor in Jazz Performance in the prestigious Sibelius Academy. Currently she is finishing her Master’s studies at the Sibelius Academy. In 2020, she spent a semester in USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles where her mentors were Sara Gazarek, Bob Mintzer and Vince Mendoza.
