DELEYAMAN is an experimental post-rock band with a unique sound consisting of 4 musicians of different nationalities. Founded by Aret Madilian , an American of Armenian origins, the band was formed in 2000 in Normandy, France and has since released 5 albums in Europe and in the U.S..
Their music is impossible to pigeon-hole into a single genre. There are reminiscences of Armenian melodies, elements of the dark and the cold wave of Bowie and Nick Cave, the ethereal atmospheres of Sigur Ros and Cocteau Twins, Velvet Underground like experimentations and hints of Leonard Cohen's melancholic folk.
DELEYAMAN also make use of the duduk (doudouk), a 3000 year old ancient Armenian wind instrument, in a unique way. Gerard Madilian's mastery of the duduk fusioned with the band's atmospheric post-rock contribute to create Deleyaman's singular sound. This singularity is reinforced with Beatrice Valantin's dream-pop vocals and untamed improvisations in various languages, whereas the deep voice of Aret Madilian provides a powerful determination to their overall sound. Deleyaman's Art Base concert in Brussels will be an opportunity to discover their music and to hear new tracks from their upcoming 2012 album. The band will be accompanied by live video projections & visuals during their performance.
