The Matthieu Acosta Trio came to be through a love and passion for Flamenco. Matthieu Acosta was raised in a family of guitarists, making music and guitar a key factor in his life. First starting with classical guitar at an early age, he decided to follow the path of a flamenco guitarist after coming into contact with the wonderful music of the great guitarist, Paco de Lucía. At the age of 15, Matthieu started studying under the tutelage of the great Paco Peña, ingraining in him a fundemental understanding and respect for what Flamenco is. Prompted by the master, Matthieu was inspired to seek his own path with the compass of Flamenco is his hands. The Matthieu Acosta Trio plays mainly original pieces composed by Matthieu with influences from other musical worlds like, classical, Brasilian, South-American folklore and Aruban music. This whilst staying true to the fundamental forms and elements of Flamenco, which are so important and most of all beautiful. In this concert with Matthieu Acosta (guitar), Irene Gabarrón (flute) and Udo Demandt (percussion) everything comes together in perfect harmony, resulting in music that is more than simply the sum of its parts. The musicians complement each other without losing their individuality. A concert with a natural flow of different styles, stories behind the compositions, the soundscape and virtuosity of the artists but most of all the beauty of Flamenco.
'I hear flamenco that engages me; new music expressed in my own language. And I can also hear that Matthieu is just being himself. Being completely honest in his delivery of a music that now belongs to him.'
