In September 2022, String Merchants was formed between violinists Lucas
Caluwaerts and Jeroen Vernimmen, violist Pieter Van den Branden and
cellist Mathias Van Den Plas. Alumni of the Koninklijk Conservatorium
Antwerpen, they all have a strong passion for and knowhow of the
classical music tradition as well as the world of jazz and folk.

With their curiosity for improvisation, they decided to take the string
quartet, being the cradle of classical chamber music, on a more
alternative path. From Monteverdi to Monk, they will walk you through
infectious rhythmic grooves, swinging bows and a cello on steroids. Bet
