Persian mystical and Sufi Music, with its deep roots in Iranian history and culture, is a spiritual and philosophical movement emphasising the connection between humanity and divine truth, as well as the search for understanding this inner truth.
In Iranian mysticism, music and Samâ (a form of spiritual dance - whirling) play vital roles. Samâ, means “listening” and is a practice aimed at reaching a state of ecstasy and proximity to the divine. The melodies and sounds, combined with the movements of Sama, create a spiritual atmosphere where one can feel close to one’s inner truth. Music and Sama are each enriching and deepening the meaning of the other. They are expressions of mystical sentiment but also channels for connecting with the divine beloved.
The music of the group is based on the poetry of Iranian poets such as Hafez, Rumi and Alireza Nourbakhsh. The group is composed of Hamed Zoheiri (vocal, setar), Farhang Habibi (tar), Julie Efsun (samâ dance).
