This workshop will be an in depth presentation of the rebetiko genre, through its history and of course its repertoire. The compositions learnt will vary chronologically, starting from the '20s and ending in the '50s. Theory and practice will co-exist throughout all the workshops with the goal of a holistic knowledge about the Rebetiko music. Last but not least it's very important to create a safe place where we can perform and enjoy this music as a team.

More specifically during the workshops, we'll discuss about:

• Ornaments • Improvisation and tools to improvise (taksim) • Rhythmology • Music scales of Rebetiko ( dromos) • Harmonic cycle • Orchestration • Decoding of grammophone recordings.

All instruments and levels are welcome, so feel free to bring your instrument and join!

Eirini Zogali counts almost 10 years in the Rebetiko genre, which she studied thoroughly through her bachelor studies in Thessaloniki. She has done numerous of concerts dedicated to Rebetiko throughout the word and teaches bouzouki, the main instrument of the genre, since 2018. She currently lives in Rotterdam where she finished her Master studies with the oud as her main instrument.
