DescriptionIn Hindustaanee music's expanse
raags weave tales of life's subtle dance
Notes glide, rise and fall,
to captivate one and all,
enchanting hearts in a melodic trance...
Art Base presents an intimate concert of Hindustaanee raag music on voice and piano, by visiting artiste from India, Ashish Dha. He will present both old and new raags, singing in the dhrupad as well as qhayaal styles. His focus will be on his innovative specialty — what he calls 'ati-saadhaaraNi geeti', a further boiling down from the Daagarvaanee dhrupad 'saadhaaraNi geeti' tradition — slow, soulful aalaap, savouring the svar and tasting the raag as much as possible. As contemporary enlightened master Shahana Dattagupta says about 'sadhaarani', "the essence of the word here is 'natural.' 'Natural' implies free of affectation, embellishment, stylization, mannerism and habit patterns... and free even of meaning-making and imposed/contrived personal emotional content. 'Natural' then, implies pure, saatvik, devoid of personalization/ego, in alignment with the Absolute."
He will be accompanied by local artist Greet Meert on the acoustic taanpuraa, the traditional drone instrument from South Asia, which has one of the richest and most complex spectrums of harmonic overtones of all musical instruments.
