Rebetiko is a genre of urban Greek folk music from the 1920s to the 1950s, with significant Turkish and Anatolian influences. The themes of the songs often revolve around love, drugs, immigration, and poverty. Rebetiko was banned under the fascist dictatorship in Greece, which gives it a revolutionary aspect. Traditionally, Rebetiko has been a male-dominated scene. As a female band, we aim to challenge this dynamic and serve as an inspiration for others who may feel reluctant to pursue this genre. Additionally, our goal in performing this music is to share with the audience the experiences of solidarity and collectivity that have come with learning how to play it. For us, this is irreplaceable, and it is what we strive to convey through our music.
